New Jersey’s neighborhood new car and truck dealerships are partnering with The Valerie Fund to raise $500,000 in 2021 to benefit thousands of children with cancer, sickle cell anemia, and other blood disorders. A special guest star will also help spread the word on what these dealers are doing to help our kids. 

On August 2nd, The Valerie Fund hosted The American Express Golf Tournament at the legendary Baltusrol Golf Club. The highlight of the day was when TVF patient Brianna spoke to the group about how The Valerie Fund affected her life. 

Summer is one of our favorite times at The Valerie Fund because we get to welcome our summer interns. This year we welcome Olivia to learn what goes into preparing events and fundraising in the autumn - even more exciting this year with the Walk & 5K moved to September 25th! The Valerie Fund Walk & 5K will be on September 25th this year instead of June and it will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual for the first time. The Valerie Fund Children's Centers are home to many healthcare heroes who support our kids during some of the most difficult times of their lives. These caregivers are experts in a variety of practices. We will be showcasing each service provided in our Children's Centers and hearing from the healthcare providers in their own words what they do for our kids and families. In this installment, we are going to learn about our Psychology specialists. 

Kids Ice Cancer and The Valerie Fund teamed up again in 2021 to score a goal against pediatric cancer in New Jersey. Kids Ice Cancer was founded in 2019 by 16-year-old Andrew Low, who lost loved ones to cancer. Andrew, a junior at the Morristown-Beard School, wanted to combine his love of hockey with his desire to raise money for pediatric cancer charities. He recruited almost 40 kids from the North Jersey area to participate in the Kids Ice Cancer annual hockey game. In the few months leading up to the game, the players all raise money for pediatric cancer. 

Summer should be about fun and having a good time for kids. They get a break from their routine and schoolwork and can finally relax - enjoy being a kid! However, for those kids battling sickle cell disease, summer brings with it certain risks. We want to share some tips on how to maximize your child's summer enjoyment without risking their health, a possible pain episode, or injury. 

The staff of The Valerie Fund help raise the money that support the seven Children's Centers in hospitals across New Jersey, New York City, and metro Philadelphia. Our staff is responsible for working with donors and partners at all levels to fund the services of The Valerie Fund. Get better acquainted with some of the people you may already know and meet some of the new faces behind The Valerie Fund. 

Many people do not realize that ringing the bell after a child's final treatment for cancer is often not the end of the story. Almost two out of three children experience some sort of long-term effect from cancer but these battles are not often publicized. June 6th is a day to counter that as we join our community in celebrating National Cancer Survivors Day.
