On July 1st, the Matthew P. Klein Golf Event was held at the Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth, NJ. This amazing event celebrates the life of Matthew Klein with a day of golfing, dinner, and a silent auction all to help children with cancer and blood disorders. This was the third year of the event and so far they have raised over $100,000 for The Valerie Fund.
We can't thank the MPK Foundation enough for the lives that they help us to improve. The day's events included a golf tournament in the gorgeous July weather followed by dinner and a silent auction. This auction included everything from gift baskets to gift certificates to local restaurants to trips across the country. All told, over 100 prizes were awarded to attendees!
Before you enjoy some photos from the day, please read a few words from Matthew's parents about Matthew himself and why they do the amazing work that they do.
Our greatest gift in this world came to us on September 21, 1995. We named him Matthew Paul Klein. He would be known by so many names, Buddy, Matty P, Matty Pancakes, Matooch, and Po. So many nicknames because he was loved by so many of us in our own special way. Matt was a warm, wonderful young man who enjoyed doing for others much more than for himself. He worked at Galloping Hill Golf Course before moving to Ashbrook Golf Course in Scotch Plains. Anyone who knew Matt would know that the only thing he loved more than golf was his family and friends. Although he didn’t like to be the center of attention, we are sure that he is smiling down on us (and laughing at some of the golfers). From the bottom of our hearts we would like to thank everyone participating in this event. All proceeds will benefit The Valerie Fund, an amazing organization helping children with cancer and blood disorders. A day of golf, dinner with family and friends, and a fundraiser to help children...we couldn’t think of a better way to honor our son’s memory. Matthew, we will carry you in our hearts forever!
